Tesla Model X Body Panel3D Scanning
The reconstruction of a Tesla Model X body panel required a combination of high-accuracy 3D scanning and structured CAD reverse engineering. The component was first captured using professional-grade 3D scanning equipment in an outdoor environment, generating a high-density STL mesh used as a geometric reference. Particular attention was given to surface continuity, edge definition, and overall panel alignment. The scan data was then processed and interpreted within a reverse engineering workflow, where the geometry was rebuilt as a fully parametric CAD model. This approach ensured clean surfaces, controlled curvature, and a topology suitable for manufacturing and further design development. The final CAD model was delivered in STEP format, enabling seamless integration into CAD-CAM environments for downstream applications such as tooling, inspection, and production. A deviation analysis was also performed to compare the original scan data with the reconstructed CAD model, ensuring dimensional consistency and validating the accuracy of the reverse engineering process.
