High-Accuracy 3D Macro Scanning for Small Components
We provide high-precision 3D macro scanning services for small components and micro-scale parts, supporting reverse engineering, inspection, and quality control workflows across the UK. Using advanced fringe projection technology with a small field of view (FOV) and high-resolution stereo cameras, we capture extremely detailed 3D data suitable for engineering and manufacturing applications.
Typical performance:
- Point-to-point resolution: ~0.02 mm
- Dimensional accuracy: ~0.025 mm per scan
This level of precision makes macro scanning ideal for intricate components such as threads, connectors, gears, medical parts, jewellery, and precision-engineered elements.

Data Acquisition
Small components are scanned using high-resolution optical systems. Depending on geometry, either the scanner or the part is repositioned to capture all features, including occluded areas. For reflective or translucent surfaces, a removable scanning spray is applied to ensure accurate data capture.
Mesh Generation
Captured data is converted into a dense point cloud and processed into a high-resolution 3D mesh (STL/OBJ), accurately representing the component geometry.
Reverse Engineering
The mesh data is analysed to extract key features and design intent. This enables the creation of engineering-ready CAD models suitable for redesign or manufacturing.
Inspection & Analysis
3D data can be used for dimensional inspection, comparison against nominal CAD, and quality control to identify deviations or defects.
