Car Differential Gearbox 3D Scanning | Case Study
This example showcases a watertight 3D scan of a car differential gearbox, captured with high accuracy using a FARO Laser Arm. This technology is particularly effective for complex mechanical parts with occluded and hard-to-reach areas, ensuring complete data acquisition. The resulting scan data was processed into a clean 3D mesh and prepared for reverse engineering in Geomagic Design X. Key geometric features such as hole positions, axes, planes, and reference elements were accurately extracted to support CAD modelling and engineering workflows. This process demonstrates how advanced 3D scanning enables reliable digitisation of intricate components for inspection, redesign, and manufacturing.
