Casting Part 2D Manufacturing PDF Drawing

This project demonstrates the creation of a 2D manufacturing drawing from 3D scan data of a casting component. By converting scan-derived geometry into structured CAD information, it is possible to produce accurate technical drawings suitable for manufacturing and production. The workflow combines 3D scanning, CAD reverse engineering, and technical drafting to transform raw mesh data into clear, dimensioned documentation.

From 3D Scan to 2D Drawing: Workflow Overview

1. Import of 3D Scan Data
The STL mesh is imported into dedicated reverse engineering software, where key features and geometries are analysed and reconstructed into a clean CAD model (STEP, IGES, or Parasolid).

2. CAD Reconstruction
Critical elements such as surfaces, holes, fillets, and functional features are extracted and rebuilt to reflect the original design intent and ensure manufacturability.

3. 2D Sketch Creation
From the 3D CAD model, a complete set of 2D views is generated (top, front, side). Profiles are derived using projection and intersection tools to accurately represent the component geometry.

4. Dimensioning & Annotations
Detailed dimensions, tolerances, and manufacturing information are applied, including notes on materials, surface finishes, threads, and assembly requirements. This ensures the drawing is production-ready and compliant with engineering standards.

5. Export & Delivery
Final drawings are delivered in standard formats such as DWG or PDF, ready for manufacturing, inspection, or documentation purposes.
