3D scanning of statues and artistic artifacts

Do you need to scan statues, bas-reliefs, sculptures, capitals or historical artifacts? Thanks to our non-contact 3d scanning technology we are able to provide you watertight 3D models ready for 3D printing or CNC milling. We can create 3D models by using two different technologies:

  • White light 3D Scanning

  • 3D model generation from photos (Photogrammetry)

In the first case, the white light 3D scanning is suitable to capture items from 10 mm up to 3 meters. Thanks to the high resolutions of its 3D sensor, such 3D scanner provides incredible details, high scanning speed and a high dimensional accuracy.

Contrarily, when the dimensions of the object are more than 3 meters (up to 100 meters) the photogrammetry technology helps us manage better this types of items. We are able to digitize church and building facades, statues, stone artifacts, caves and historic buildings as well. The photogrammetry is also ideal to get high-resolution textures automatically mapped onto the 3D models. The photogrammetry is used successfully wherever 3D models and measurements from photos are required, especially when high accuracy, non-contact measurement is important.

The Cimitero monumentale di Staglieno is an extensive cemetery located on a hillside in the district of Staglieno of Genoa, Italy, famous for its monumental sculpture. Covering an area of more than a square kilometre, it is one of the largest cemeteries in Europe. The cemetery contains the graves of Oscar Wilde's wife Constance Lloyd, Ferruccio Parri, Fabrizio De André, Nino Bixio, and Giuseppe Mazzini. In this case we created some 3D models of statues starting from a serie of photos taken all around the figures.

How long does it take to do the 3D scanning?

Normally the 3D scanning task is fast but it's depends, obviously, by the complexity and the length of the item. If you are interested in 3D scanning service we suggest you to provide us further information regarding the item you want to scan: email us some photos and we will answer you promptly.

It's not permit to touch the items. Can we perform the digitizing anyway?

The response is yes because we will use a non-contact 3D scanning technology. Normally we are able to digitize a large variety of shapes and the standard working distance is between 150 mm up to 1.5 m from the object. The only thing we have to manage, in order to provide the best quality, are the light conditions. We are able to perform the 3D scanning outdoor but, in this case, we have to arrange a specific rig, used to diffuse the direct sunlight. We can also acquire dark surfaces without applying a whitening but only when the color is not too shiny or when it does not contains strong specular areas.

How much do our services cost?

Our 3D scanning services generally vary in price depending on what type of work we will be doing for you. We also have to consider the complexity of the item, the dimension and the location therefore, send us further information regarding your object and will produce a quote for you quickly.

Apart the 3D scanning service, what else we can manage?

Below, a short list that contains extra services we can do for you.

  • Digital restoration of any 3D models

  • Reverse engineering, analysys and inspection

  • Compositing & photorealistic rendering
